Havoline® Gen 2 Products Now Meet GM’s® dexos1™ Gen 3 Specification

By April 6, 2023No Comments

In November 2021, General Motors announced the third generation of its dexos™1 engine oil specification, spelling out new performance requirements for lubricants intended for use in GM vehicles. The dexos1 Gen 3 specification replaces dexos1 Gen 2, which was introduced in 2015. Compared to the previous generation, dexos1 Gen 3 calls for tighter performance standards for oxidation resistance to mitigate against oil degradation and deposit formation, as well as for sludge control, piston cleanliness, and overall engine cleanliness.

Chevron’s 0W-20 and 5W-30 grades of Havoline® Synthetic Technology, Havoline PRO-RS™ Renewable Full Synthetic and Havoline Lifelong Full Synthetic (sold at Walmart) oils meet the new dexos1 Gen 3 specification, and customers will soon begin to see packaging for those grades include the Gen 3 designation! With Havoline PRO-DS Full Synthetic previously meeting the Gen 3 specification, all of our former Gen 2 products have now transitioned to the latest GM dexos1 specification.

We’re conducting a rolling transition to new dexos1 Gen 3 labels on our Lifelong, Synthetic Technology and PRO-RS packaging. Actual transition dates will vary by product based on inventory levels. There will be no impact to product numbers or UPC’s.

In addition to the forthcoming label updates, the Product Data Sheets of each product have been updated and are linked below.
