A new case study featuring Trinity River Lumber Co. in Weaverville, California, shows how ISOCLEAN® Certified Lubricants help the mill advance their maintenance and reliability initiatives. The mill relies on 20 electro-hydraulic servo valves to keep logs flowing through the mill during two shifts a day. To protect these assets, the mill developed a lubricant cleanliness standard, and switched to ISOCLEAN products about four years ago.
Reducing wear and downtime is critical to keep the valves running without fail. “When I understood that this valve requires a certain fluid cleanliness to run smoothly, I looked into best management practices to keep our hydraulics as clean as possible,” said Jeffrey Evans, lead lubrication technician. Evans realized that typical new oil was not clean enough and particulate contamination can cause excessive wear in component parts, resulting in unstable operation and premature failure. He teamed up with Jessie Torres of Redwood Fuels – a Chevron ISOCLEAN Certified Lubricants supplier – to bring in Rando HD 68 ISOCLEAN Certified Hydraulic Fluid to a 14/12/10 specification. They also implemented the ISOCLEAN SmartFill Label program, covered bulk oil storage in the mill with a shed roof, and installed Des-Case breathers and direct couplers to maintain fluid cleanliness.
The result: “The oil in our system lasted longer, our components lasted longer, and we saw a higher level of reliability,” Evans said.
