3D mammography scan from an expert mammography tech

How is a 3D mammography better than 2D?

Traditional 2D mammograms capture just two views of the breast tissue—from the top and the side. Modern Hologic 3D mammography takes multiple images from different angles, creating a much more detailed picture. That added clarity helps doctors spot more abnormalities earlier, while also reducing the chances of false positives.

Friendly advice from Dr. Polselli

Wherever you decide to get your screen mammogram, make sure the facility is using 3D technology and always check to make sure the Radiologist interpreting your exam is a Fellowship Trained Breast Imaging Radiologist. Earlier detection can save your life.

All your questions answered.

Who will interpret my mammogram results?

All mammograms are interpreted by a fellowship-trained breast imaging radiologist, doctors who have received additional education and training in breast imaging. These specialists can expertly interpret even the most complex imagine, leading to more precise and accurate interpretation.

Can I wear deodorant?

You should avoid using deodorants, lotions, and perfumes ahead of your appointment. Many of these products contain metals such as aluminum, zinc, or magnesium which can affect the accuracy of your mammogram.

Do I need a primary care provider (PCP) to get a screening?

You do not need a PCP to receive your routine mammogram from Mammolink. However, if your results require a follow-up screening, you will need a PCP. The Mammolink team can help you find a PCP to work with if needed.

When will I get my results, and how?

Your results will be sent to your patient portal within one business day.

When they’re ready, you’ll receive a text with a link to log into your patient portal. You can log in using your name and date of birth, or by choosing to receive a one-time code. No username or password required! Once you’re in your patient portal, you’ll have access to your results and your images.

What are my next steps?

After your appointment, your primary care provider (PCP) will receive your results electronically.

If your mammogram comes back normal, there’s nothing more you need to do right now. Just remember to keep up with your routine screenings.

If your mammogram shows some abnormality, your primary care provider (PCP) will contact you for additional screening. If you do not have a PCP, the Mammolink team will contact you to arrange your follow-up screening and help you find a PCP.

An abnormal mammogram can be alarming news, but the majority of follow-up mammograms do not find life-threatening results. Stay proactive and arrange your next screening, keeping a list of any questions you may want to ask while you’re there. It can also be helpful to reach out to family and friends for emotional support and encouragement during the waiting period.
